Johnny B. Cooper was born on the 1st of April 1967 in Czechoslovakia. At the age of nine his passion for music began, with his older sister -‐ who was listening to music that was hard to access due to the political situaHon -‐ as his ﬁrst “teacher”. Having ﬁrst been beguiled by the Pop sensibiliHes of ABBA and The Beatles, he soon moved on to acts like Deep Purple, Yes, Rush, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull.
Having performed in bands as a young man, he soon found there was no place in Socialist Czechoslovakia to be a professional musician, and put his ambitions on hold for twenty years. In the meantime his country has completely changed……. He bought his ﬁrst electric guitar in September 2014 and his own music and lyrics soon ﬂowed. The result? His ﬁrst song – “The Airship“.
The story of the song “The Airship” The genesis of “The Airship” began in 1987 with Johnny writing lyrics in his native language. Twenty years later, armed with his newly-honed guitar skills, his mind was full of diﬀerent words to accompany them -‐ including “The Airship”. With a few tweaks and a translaHon into English, they suddenly took on a whole new dimension.
What started out as a demo in a recording studio in Brno, Czech Republic soon caught the ear of London-based Songwriter-Producer Steven Williams (Sting, Gary Barlow, Britney Spears, Lisa Stansﬁeld, Eric Clapton), who arranged a fully-evolved version supported by world-class musicians in his Wimbledon studio. It took many weeks full of discussions, colletive hard work and countless rehearsals to produce the wonderful, melancholic and dreamy version of “The Airship” that is now ready to be enjoyed by the masses.
