Funk Village was formed back in 2012 with core members Hira Williams (Hitz) and Matt Clark (Kortaz) collaborating fresh out of High School. Both were into the Art of Hip Hop with both being rappers, and Hitz enhancing his skills on the beats and production side of things.
Both originally from Hamilton, they were really involved with the Youth developement in the Nawton Area and found it beneficial to make music and share it with the community. This platform launched them onto many different stages all over the country, for all sorts of festivals and local events.
Throughout these early days Funk Village played the nightclubs scenes and entered into competitions which would open up new doors and challenges for the duo. Hitz went on to take part in a Waikato Beat Box (Human Drum Machine) competition and took out 1st place, as did Kortaz with a Freestye Rap Compettion for the Waikato Region where he also gained 1st place. These achievements among many more, have helped to build the group a respected name in the Hip Hop music scene.
In 2012 Funk Village completed thier first official Album "Meant 2 Be" which go over 1000 downloads aswell as being nominated for the Best Urban Album at the 2012 Waiata Maori Music Awards held in Hastings. This was a huge step for them, they are the 1st group to ever do so from Hamilton. Currently Hitz is living in Brisbane (AUS) but Funk Village continue to make music as thier other part of thier group Villains who is a 12 man group primarily based in Hamilton.
